Arizona is seeking its first road win of the season

The Coyotes will play the fifth game of a six-game road trip on Tuesday night when they take on the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center. The puck drops at 4 p.m. Arizona time.

Arizona (1-4-0) will be looking to end a four-game losing streak including consecutive 3-2 losses to the New York Islanders and Rangers.

The Coyotes will have forward Jamie McGinn in the lineup for the first time this season. McGinn, who missed the first five games because of an upper-body injury, scored 22 goals last season with Buffalo and Anaheim.

Justin Peters will make his first start in goal. He stopped 23 of 24 shots in his only other appearance for the Coyotes this season, a relief appearance in Montreal last Thursday.

Arizona will enter the game ranked sixth in the NHL with 137 hits. Defenseman Luke Schenn is leading the way with 14.

Rookie Jakob Chychrun has impressed the coaches with his poise and maturity. The 18-year-old defenseman has notched one goal and two assists in four games.

"His skating and his agility really help him out," Head Coach Dave Tippett said. "He attacks people. It's a hard position to play, and there's still hiccups there along the way so he'll continue to learn, but I give him full marks. He's been a pretty good player so far."

Anthony Duclair has yet to notch a point in five games, which is surprising considering he notched 20 goals and 24 assists last season as a rookie.

"The concerning thing for me now is he hasn't gotten near as many chances as he did last year, so he has to continue to work at his game to get to a level where he can help us," Tippett said.

New Jersey (2-2-1) has scored just eight goals in five games and has allowed just nine.

Goalie Cory Schneider, who has started every game this season, is 7-1-1, with four shutouts, a 0.88 goals-against average and a .969 save percentage vs. the Coyotes.

Taylor Hall, who is leading the Devils with three goals, has produced 20 points (eight goals, 12 assists) in 22 career games against the Coyotes.

New Jersey's penalty-kill unit has killed all but one of 17 power-play opportunities by opponents. That's a 94.1 percent success rate.

Most likely.

Would they be doing him any favors by playing him in the show right now? It's going to be another long season in the desert. So let's get in early on the tank and wrap up best odds at snagging Nolan Patrick.

They apparently are doing just that.

We're already at tank talk, in October, FFS :palm:

Tank talk is early but with the volume of youngsters on this roster - it would be foolish to think this club will do any better than third last over all.
The Jets also have a pack of pups causing holes in the defensive zone etc. and they're stumbling, with a much better nucleus of experienced players than the dogs.
With Smitty down again; this season is kaput. Domingue ain't been too special so far.
Sucks to be us but adding another top three draft pick next season just means we become a dominant team for longer in a few years when the kids start figuring it all out.

We clearly need to upgrade in goal - and I guess it is time to buy out Smith as his fragility is not good enough.

Maybe we send a second rounder to Pittsburgh for MA Fleury?
Long Live The Jets
