The Coyotes begin a six-game trip on Tuesday night with a match-up against the Ottawa Senators at the Canadian Tire Centre. The puck drops at 4:30 p.m. AZ time.

Arizona (1-0-0) will enter the game looking to continue momentum gained via a 4-3 overtime win over Philadelphia on Saturday on Opening Night at Gila River Arena.

"This is going to be a good test for our team," Head Coach Dave Tippett said. "With as many young players (and) as many new players, it's going to be a good test for us. We're going to go into some buildings where we're not going to have time to be young and inexperienced. We're going to have to dig right in."

Mike Smith is expected to start in goal for the Coyotes after posting 27 saves vs. the Flyers. Smith is 5-5-1 vs. Ottawa in his career with a 3.39 goals-against average.

Tippett said there's "a good chance" that rookie Dylan Strome, who was a healthy scratch for the first game of the season, would make his NHL debut in this game. At Monday's practice, he skated with wingers Tobias Rieder and Anthony Duclair in place of felow rookie center Christian Dvorak. The Coyotes selected Strome third overall in the 2015 NHL Draft.

The Coyotes assigned defenseman Zbynek Michalek to the American Hockey League on Monday signaling the return of defenseman Kevin Connauton to active duty. Connauton suffered a lower-body injury skating informally over the summer and opened the season on the injured reserve list. Meanwhile, forward Jamie McGinn remains sidelined because of an upper-body injury.

Captain Shane Doan notched Arizona's first goal of the season and needs just three more to reach 400 for his NHL career. Only 91 players have reached that mark in League history. Doan has 549 assists, just one helper shy of tying Dale Hawerchuk for second place on the team's all-time assists list. Thomas Steen is first with 553.

Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored the game-winning goal for Arizona in the opener and played 31:46 in the overtime game. That's the most amount of ice time logged by any player in the NHL so far this season.

The Coyotes are looking to be a better road team this season; they've won just 13 of 41 road games in each of the past two seasons.

"Road games are so much harder at the start of the year when teams are fully energized and ready to go and healthy," defenseman Connor Murphy said. "It's big for us to make sure we have things in place to play our full game on the road."

Defenseman Alex Goligoski, one of 10 newcomers on the roster, said the lengthy trip is great for team bonding.

"There's no better way for the guys to get to know each other than being out on the road," Goligoski said. "You're around the guys all the time going to dinners and whatnot, so it'll be good. I think it's a good thing early in the season."

The Senators (2-1-0) suffered a sobering 5-1 loss at Detroit on Monday night after starting the season with home wins over Toronto and Montreal. It was the first defeat for new Head Coach Guy Boucher.

Forward Ryan Dzingel scored Ottawa's lone goal vs. the Red Wigs, short-handed, and goalie Andrew Hammond stopped only 20 of 25 shots.

Ottawa went 0 for 3 on the power play on Monday and is 0 for 9 this season.

Defenseman Erik Karlsson leads the Senators with five points (one goal, four assists) in three games.

When I looked at the schedule and saw the six day road trip starting on day two, this was my reaction:

Could be Strome's debut!

Indeed a grind to start the season but perhaps a good thing for the youngsters to do some quick learning and the team to come together. Could be a great thing, as Tippett seems to believe, or could be a harbinger of blech for the rest of the season.

I see the dogs winning this game 4-2. Strome will score his first NHL goal, with Vrbata, Rieder and Goligoski also scoring. Three helpers for OEL. Karlsson and Stone for the Sens.

Go dogs
