Smith has stopped some nice short shots, but the two he let in from the short sides were killers. Not throwing him under the bus, but you just can't do that.

the 1st 1 was kind of a fluke, thomas, bobby lou, and fleury let similar goals in to start the season so ill give him a mulligan, but on the 2nd he left his pad off the post and gave them a perfect target for a bank shot. overall; getting 2 games worth of rubber in 1 with a few he never had a chance on, 6 GA isint necessarily horrible and with the lack of defensive play in front i doubt anyone would have done much better.

on a positive note, the boys kept it from being a complete ass whooping, the PP was 3/7, doan added another 2 goal w/o a hattie game to his resume, and yandle gave me some much needed points for my fantasy team.

Rough game, but Smitty (hate that nickname) wasn't too horrible. If Morris hadn't committed 2 penalties and OEL would have gotten into position quicker on one of the goals, it would have been a 3-3 game and headed to OT.

They definitely need some work though (everyone).

Well, we've won the last five season openers. Can't win 'em all.
We also can't forget San Jose, besides being one of the best teams in the league, has something to prove this year. They proved something last night, all right.
Nice to see Doan on target. Nice to see Yandle coming out in form. Hope Rozsival's beak isn't too bad. Nice to see OEL get a marker.
Smith... he got hung out to dry - big time. Fifty two shots!!! Are you kidding me?

Here's hoping that game was the exception for the boys and not the rule, for this season. If it is the rule, we are in for a LONG season.

I remember a few years back we destroyed the Islander like 7-1 in our first game. We went on to suck the rest of the year. It is just a fluke thing. We will have a hard time scoring, but I think we will be ok on defense this year.

Shame to open the season with a loss, but as the stats show the Sharks have the Yotes number, especially in California!

Season openers are always a little strange, you can have all the pre-season you want, but nothing really prepares for game time where there are points on offer. If the Yotes can break even in the series i'll be happy! Im not too worried about the games in SJ, i'd be more bothered about the Yotes winning the games at Jobing!

Must try and watch the highlights tonight, 52 shots on Smith?

Anyone who thinks that obviously didn't watch the same game. How about a lack of defense. You can't face 52 shots on goal with no support from your defense and not have some get through. How many other goalies do you think could handle that many shots on goal and not have a similar score? I think Smith did good with what he was dealt.
